A Community Foundation is an independent, locally managed charitable trust, which raises funds from donors and businesses in local areas. It is accountable to the people of that area, and produces annual reports of its accounts and work. Community Foundations now serve over 80% of the country.
Collectively the 60 community foundations in Britain (members of Community Foundation Network) have endowment funds of over £100 million and make grants annually of a value approaching £25 million. Each foundation aims to build up its own endowment fund, as donations are received year on year.
NWLCF was established 2002. It is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. The foundation grew out of a former organisation, The Harrow Community Trust which was established in 1994. Between 1994- 2001 The Harrow Community Trust distributed over £80,000 in small grant to local causes.
Over the last several years NWLCF has built up a good track record of delivering grants to community groups in Brent, Barnet, Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon, Enfield and Haringey. In London we were the third largest provider of administering the Local Network Fund (special fund aimed to support projects for children and young people).
We have managed a number of corporate and Government funds: Business Objects, Camelot, Kodak, Local Network Fund, Sport Relief and also Viola Water Three Valleys. We are currently managing: Brent Fair Share Trust, Comic Relief, Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund and Grassroots.
We have distributed just over £4 million in grants to over 900 community groups.
